Business Q&A: The Linen Closet, Inc.

Since 1953, on Sunrise Highway has catered to the home accessory needs of its customers. Sarah Chesler spent her teenage years working for the family business. In 1990, Chesler took over full time. Here, she explains what makes her store such a Rockville Centre institution. 

What type of items do you sell?

I am a retail store. We sell fabulous bedding, table linens, bath items and small home accessories. 

What are your most popular items?

We carry vintage bathing beauties. They are small reproductions of porcelain bathing beauties from the turn of the century. They wear fabulous bathing suits and they never talk back (laughs). That’s a very hot item. I also have fabulous wall art and candles like none other.     

What makes The Linen Closet unique?

We have a (large) variety of items. We have choices for men, women and children. There’s something here to satisfy everybody’s needs or wants, whether it’s personal or a gift item.  

What do you like about operating in RVC?

Having grown up here, I know a lot of my customers. Those I don’t know soon become part of The Linen Closet. We really get to know the people who shop here and they enjoy the recognition when they come in.

Are many of your customers regulars?

No, I get a lot of new customers. But I treat them as if they have been customers for 20 years. People appreciate that that kind of personal service. Whether you’ve walked in the store for the very first time or you’re here over and over, you get a very positive, personal response from either me or my sales people.
