RVC Lawyer Named Secretary of LI Big Brothers Big Sisters

Rockville Centre lawyer Thomas Slome has been elected secretary of the board of directors of Directors Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI), where he has been a director since 2011.

BBBSLI, a non-profit organization, is the oldest and largest youth mentoring group in the United States. The organization matches adult volunteers and children with a mission to provide the children, who usually face adversity, with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships.

"I give my time to BBBSLI because the organization takes relatively modest donations and delivers a big bang for the buck to society through its mentoring program,” Slome said. “Our volunteer ‘Bigs’ spend significant time with their ‘Littles’ each month, many of whom come from single parent and economically-challenged homes. As a frequent result, children who might otherwise drift into a life of violence or drugs have a more wholesome social life and even excel in school, thereby becoming an asset to rather than a burden on society."
