Pass The Consolidated Animal Crimes Bill

Dear Senator Skelos,

Only five weeks are left to this legislative session in Albany. Please take action on the CACB (Consolidated Animal Crimes Bill). Do not let it die at the end of this session. Too many crimes against animals are being processed under the lesser Market and Agriculture laws. The CACB will add animal cruelty to the New York State Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Law allowing police to take more informed and decisive action when they spot animal cruelty; It will allow the DA to more strongly prosecute these cases; it will allow judges to mete out longer sentences and stiffer penalties and punish repeat offenders more appropriately. Fines will raise revenues for the State and help defray the costs of caring for the animals which must be kept in State custody as evidence during trials. You have been a great friend to animals in the past. Now is the time to push this measure through. Nassau ADA Jed Painter, who heads the DA's Animal Crime Unit says you have been more than cooperative and listened to the merits here. Please take action and let's take a major step toward fully criminalizing cruelty to animals. Please? Before it's too late.
