SSMS Eighth Grader Named MVP at Overseas Soccer Tournament

Alexandra McNicholas, an eighth grader at South Side Middle School, was recently named MVP at the 32nd Annual Agropoli Cup Tournament in Southern Naples, Italy.

McNicholas plays for the New York State Olympic Developmental Soccer team.

The ODP team toured Capri, Pompeii, Sorrento and Salerno over spring break before competing in the prestigious Agropoli Cup Tournament in Southern Naples.

The New York team captured the cup in the championship game against the youth academy team of the professional squad from Napoli.

McNicholas, who plays forward and midfield for the team, scored seven goals and had four assists in five games of the tournament. She was awarded the honor of being named the most valuable player for the entire tournament.

The team played exceptionally well in the tournament and players said they had a great experience both on and off the field.

Locally, McNicholas plays with the U-14 Rockville Centre Express who participate in the North East Regional Premier Soccer League.
