SSHS Loses in Class A Semifinals to Wantagh, 3-0
Lady Cyclones fall in straight sets to No.1 ranked Warriors.
ended its season on Monday with a Class A semifinal playoff loss in straight sets to undefeated, No. 1 ranked Wantagh at Long Beach High School. The Cyclones finished 9-9 on the year, while the Warriors improved to 15-0.
Hero — Grace Healey helped her team score, as she put up 8 kills. Teammate Lauren Maietti chipped in ten assists. Wantagh's Christina Bush added six straight services aces in the second game.
Turning Point — After Wantagh won the first set 26-24, that momentum carried into the second set, as the Warriors won 25-7. The No. 1 ranked powerhouse continued its dominance in the third and final set, putting away the Cyclones, 25-17.Â
Quote — South Side Head Coach Cheryl Scalice said, "We came into the season ranked sixth. We finished the season ranked fourth. That's quite an improvement and I'm very proud of what we have accomplished this season. We've come a long way since the beginning of the season, and have worked extremely hard to get to where we are today."
Bottom Line — South Side will look to improve on its successful season next year as it returns 13 of its 15 players.Â
