PLAYOFF PREVIEW: South Side vs. Garden City

A final four berth is on the line.

In its worst loss of the season, the South Side Cyclones were pounded 10-1 by the Garden City Trojans on May 10, and were held to only six shots on goal.

The Cyclones now have a chance at redemption.

After knocking of their playoff nemesis Lynbrook in the quarterfinals of the Class B playoffs, South Side will face Garden City today with a spot in the final four on the line. Here's how the matchup breaks down.

In their last matchup, Garden City junior Devin Dwyer and senior Tom Gordon combined for five goals and three assists, while teammate Rob Savage put two of his own in the back of the cage.

In Garden City's first two playoff wins, they have outscored their opponents 28-7. The five-time defending Class B champions have won 11 in a row, and with a staunch defense and high-powered offense, the Trojans look to make it 12.

In South Side's first two playoff wins, the Cyclones outscored their opponents 23-7 off the backs of Bryan Gerrato, Zach Scaduto and Peter Clark. Scaduto and Gerrato have combined for 13 goals in the past two games.

They play today at 5:30 p.m. at Hofstra.

Garden City Players to Watch

Tom Gordon — The senior midfielder totaled more than 30 goals this season, and scored four times in Garden City's 18-2 thrashing of Glen Cove.

Jack Spencer — The senior attacker has five goals in the first two playoff games for the Trojans.
