Lady Lions Shutout in Season Opener

Molloy's women's soccer team loses 3-0 to St. Michael's; manages only one shot on goal.

Molloy's women's soccer team only managed one shot on goal during its season opening 3-0 loss to Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon. The matchup took place during day one of the Dowling Tournament at Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven.

Sophomore forward Cassie Crockett scored two of St. Michael's three goals, including the game's first score in the 32nd minute. On the play, Crockett tapped the ball into the back of the net after a free kick from sophomore midfielder Megan Olsen was sent into the penalty box off a re-start. The Purple Knights eventually took that 1-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Early in the second half, Saint Michael's added to its lead when sophomore midfielder Katie Murphy scored on an unassisted effort just more than 12 minutes into the half. The Purple Knights netted its final goal in the 88th minute when Crockett sprinted down midfield and punched a shot past freshman goalie Tricia Zarro into the right side of the net.
