Garden City Tops South Side for Girls Soccer Championship

It took three overtimes and penalty kicks, but the Garden City Girls Soccer team (13-4-1) won the Conference AA title Tuesday at Denton Avenue against South Side (15-2-1).

The story of the game was the goaltending, as Trojans' netminder Taylor Carpentier made 16 saves to stop South Side. Sarah McCarthy made 11 saves for South Side.

The game came down to penalty kicks after three overtimes couldn't settle things, and the Trojans won that battle, 5-3.

Prior to defeating South Side, Garden City defeated Clarke (1-0) and Cold Spring Harbor (2-0). South Side defeated Island Trees (4-0) and Bellmore JFK (2-1).
