Former Cyclones Soar in Hawaiian Collegiate Baseball League

Tom Howard and Jake Cameron were named all stars.

Former Cyclones All-County and Second Team All-Long Island baseball players, Tom Howard and Jake Cameron, recently earned all-star nods in the Hawaiian Collegiate Baseball League after dominating on their respective teams.

The league, which invites elite collegiate baseball players with Hawaii ties and other Division I, II and III athletes from colleges across the nation, compiles players onto six teams for the summer-long conference.

Howard, who played for the Waimea Waves, batted .323 with a .380 on-base percentage and compiled 32 hits and three stolen bases. His .323 batting average ranked him among the top three players in the league, and his 32 hits was good for fourth among all players.

Cameron, who played for the Oahu Paddlers, batted .329 with a whopping .407 on-base percentage, a .536 slugging percentage and 24 hits. Cameron also hit for the cycle in a game, and his four triples led the league.

The two split time at first base during the July 18 all-star game at Hans L’Orange Stadium in Oahu. Each all-star team was composed of players from three of the six teams in the league.

Kevin Brown, another former South Side Cyclone, also was invited to play in the league. Brown played for the Waikiki Surfers. The three former Cyclones grew up together and played in the RVC Little League.
