Protecting Your Child from H1N1

A few tips for parents and students to avoid contraction.

The 2010-11 school year is nearing, and along with preparing kids for September, parents should teach their kids good hygiene practices to keep them safe from H1N1. The Rockville Centre School District, along with the Nassau County Health Department and Center for Disease Control, outlined some methods to help keep your kids and family safe during the flu season.

— If you are sick, stay home.

— Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Throw the tissue in the trash when you're done.

— Wash your hands with soap and water.

— Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.

— Try to keep your child from having close contact with sick people.

— Don't share personal items, like towels, razors, water bottles, etc.

— Keep surfaces like bedside tables, surfaces in the bathroom, kitchen counters   and toys for children clean with a household disinfectant.
