Molloy's men's soccer team opened up its East Coast Conference schedule with a 2-0 loss to No. 15 Dowling College at Golden Lions' Field in Brookhaven last week. Senior forward Emmanuel Gamez led the Lions with three shots, who dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Golden Lions improved to 3-0-1 on the year, and 1-0 in contests against ECC opponents.
Dowling outshot Molloy 12-4 in the 2-0 shutout.
Dowling punched in their two goals toward the end of each half. With under three minutes to go before the intermission, Dowling sophomore midfielder Jorge Ruiz drove home a five-yard shot off a cross pass from fellow sophomore John Ortega. In the second stanza, the Golden Lions received a late insurance goal from junior midfielder Harald Gundhus. On the play, Gundhus was all alone on sophomore keeper Michael Hunter, and chipped a shot just over his hands.
