Maureen C. O'Connell won her third term as Nassau County Clerk.

O'Connell, who defeated Laura A. Gillen, D-Rockville Centre Tuesday, has served as County Clerk since 2006. She garnered 147,981 votes, or 56.85 percent, against Gillen's 112, 257 with 100 percent of the votes counted.

O'Connell, R-East Williston, is a graduate of Flushing Hospital and Medical Center School of Nursing, St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, and St. John's University School of Law. O'Connell served on the state assembly for eight years before becoming Hempstead Town Clerk. She is married with one son.

O'Connell hopes to continue implementing "efficiencies and improvements made" since she took office, expand technology in clerk operations, and "continue the development of a personal touch," according to Newsday.
