By Monday night, virtually all of our residential customers should have their electric service restored. If your electricity is not working and you neighbors have power, the problem is likely with the service line to your individual house. Call 766- 5800 to have the Electric Department inspect your service line to determine what the problem is.

Election Day

All Nassau County polling places will be open Tuesday, Nov, 6 for Election Day. Temporary visitors displaced from their homes should call the Board of Elections at 516- 571-2411 for information on how to vote.

Wednesday Nor'easter

Unfortunately, our area is likely to have more severe weather this week. The storm predicted for Wednesday morning could last for as long as 24 hours and bring with it high winds and intense rain, which could easily cause new damage to our electrical system. You should, once again, be prepared for electrical outages and stock up on those emergency items you might need.

Carbon Monoxide

If you are using an alternate heating source or an electric generator, make sure that you have a carbon monoxide detector in place and supplied with fresh back-up batteries.

Looking for Generators

If you have an electric generator you would be willing to lend temporarily, please call the Sandel Senior Center at 678-9350.

Village Offices / Services / Events

  • The Recreation Center on North Oceanside Road and the Sandel Senior Center at South Park and Lincoln avenues remain open for heat and electricity, some modified programming, and charging your electronic devices.
  • The Recreation Center is also a drop-off location for donations to hurricane victims. Items needed include: non-perishable food, clothing, diapers, toiletries, towels, paper towels, toilet paper, blankets, batteries, and cleaning items.
  • The Rockville Centre 10K, 5K and Family Fun Run scheduled for Nov. 10 have been canceled.

Traffic

Driving may again become hazardous, especially after dark, if street lights go out. Where traffic control lights are not working, make a full stop at non-functioning traffic signals before proceeding through the intersection.

Warning

Unfortunately, after any crisis like Hurricane Sandy, unscrupulous individuals will try to prey on disaster victims. If anyone approaches you offering to make utility inspections or to do repair or clean-up work, demand to see identification and a current license. If they refuse, call the police at 766-1500.

Updates are being posted on the Village website www.rvcny.us.
