County: Mangano Delivers Third No-Property Tax Hike Budget

A weekly look-in at the news of Nassau County.

According to a release from the county, for the third year in a row, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano delivered to the legislature a no-property tax increase budget that reduces spending for a second consecutive year and continues to deliver essential services for the people of Nassau.

The release continues to state that Mangano and the Republican Legislative Caucus have cut more than $290 million in spending from Nassau’s budget.

Earlier this month, George J. Marlin, the Director of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority (NIFA), bashed the county's finances, stating that many of the county’s revenue and expense estimates from last year were "delusional."

However, the recent release from Nassau County said:

Without raising property taxes, Mangano has addressed a $311 million deficit inherited from the prior administration and kept pace with double-digit increases in pension and health care costs, unfunded mandates, a stagnant economy and poor municipal practices.

The release continued by stating that the problems created by previous administrations "are being structurally corrected in responsible and transparent budget plans advanced by the administration," putting the county on a "more efficient path to a brighter future."

You are receiving 1/2 the police and county services you were when he took office yet paying the same in taxes plus double fees for everything Nassau county provides.
Smoke and mirrors by MANGANO ! Wake up people!
Carmela Soprano September 22, 2012 at 10:51 am
Back door taxes. He raised all the fees! We're no fools Mr. Mangaroo! Get out of town before you're voted out!
Robert Demarco September 22, 2012 at 12:07 pm
Clueless Ed. Mangano that is. Ed who posted above and Carmella are absolutely right. The stupid mailing about fraud that was mailed to the house last week had to cost a few bucks. It would have more credibility if Mangano's picture were not on the flyer. That deal to borrow money to pay for the assessment refunds is a joke. Who advises this guy?. He can't think up all of this stuff himself.

Stuff it, Ed!
Don't say another word before you PAY YOUR YEARS OVERDUE PROPERTY TAX REFUNDS!
Susan September 22, 2012 at 11:44 pm
I don't think I've ever met anyone more full of himself than Ed Mangano. Oh yeah, maybe Mitt Romney. lol.

It is time for a third party. Locally, Statey, And Nationally.
This two party BS goes nowhere. I say Yes and I say No because I am Democrat and I am Republican. WTFGet the picture right. We are paying you.OOPS no we aren't, The Lobbyists are. So it just doesn't matter, they can ballyhoo about anything to us (regular people)it just go on deaf ears. Show me the MONEY and I will suck up you big time. Who Disagrees?

On the table are his so called no new taxes. Under the table you will find that he just raised a bunch of fees that will indirectly cost Mr. and Ms. taxpayer. I would like to know who the printer, that prints all those useless information mailers is related to.

WE do not even need a Nassau County Legislature. Every vote is 10-9 along party lines. Nobody on that Legislature has the courage to vote based on his thoughts or those of his constituents. They serve the Party first.
Robert Demarco September 23, 2012 at 12:03 pm
I just got one yesterday from TOH, with a picture of the eminent Mark Bonilla on the front. NC and TOH waste thousands with these self-serving mailers. The County is going down the tubes and Mangano is holding a car show next week. What a joke.

But we are ALL paying a bit extra because of the fluke application of NYS Real property law 460( Clergy exemption on private residences) wherein $1500 exemption becomes as much as $14,900! Those exempted taxes have to be collected from someone...you and me ..and not one public official has done anything about it.

raising FEES on the MIDDLE CLASS is a TAX on the Middle Class only, your friends at the Country Clubs dont use any of these places Ed! Fix the budget and spread the so-called pain to every member of Nassau County, not just the middle class.

Funny thing is we have half the police and everything is running fine, the county has has not come to a stop. Could you tell me what services have been cut that is so important.
Nassau Taxpayer September 24, 2012 at 08:26 pm
