Rockville Centre is the 29th safest "city" in New York State, according to a recent report by SafeWise Security Systems.

The Salt Lake City-based home-security provider deemed RVC 29th among 50 New York cities, praising its service to others, police department youth programs, the Mayor's Youth Task Force, and a "strong bond between citizens and government."

The report cited FBI’s 2011 Crime in the U.S. Report as well as the company’s own research since from the past two years. RVC had no violent crimes, like murders, rapes, or arsons, reported in 2011.

"It's a great honor for Rockville Centre to be named one of the safest cities in New York," said Mayor Francis X. Murray. “The Village of Rockville Centre has always placed a high priority on public safety and it is rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged. I would like to commend the efforts of our Police Department because their dedication and vigilance is instrumental in creating the safe community that we enjoy.”

“As a Department we have always worked hard to keep our great Village safe,” added Police Commissioner Charles A. Gennario.  “This report is a validation of the Department’s hard work and speaks volumes of our professional police officers.”

Topping the New York list is Floral Park, which is ranked the safest community. Also included are Port Washington (4), Glen Cove (7), Long Beach (10), Lynbrook (11), and Garden City (30).

Just stay off the foot bridges at The River and Hempstead Lake, stay off Roxen Road, Lehigh Court, Jackson Avenue, Park Avenue, Maine Street, etc....

Before too many folks take bows, this was based upon 2011 stats. I think we've seen some unpleasant trends since. With that said, I fully believe if the RVC PD keeps identifying and staying on top of certain issues BEFORE they take root and become unmanageable, we'll be fine. "If" being the operative word.

If a story like Jackson Avenue can't get out, one could be led to believe in Santaprompter and that health care cost won't rise

What happened on jackson ave
Will Munny December 18, 2013 at 06:33 AM
@deep...there was an incident involving an apparent fight between an adult and a few kids at an underage party. Rumors have been flying fast and furious but the investigation is ongoing so we don't actually know what happened yet. Certain people on this site have decided to appoint themselves judge and jury but the police findings are not out yet.

Deep...Re:Jackson Ave...FACT: An retired/ex-cop got the crap kicked outta him by a bunch of drunken PUNKS...He had to have part of his ear sewn back on...Some here want you to think it was his fault - that he started assaulting innocent 'children' who refused to leave a private residence while others see it as a bunch of PUNKS - who are not CHILDREN at all- disrespecting their elders...Not really sure how one can surmise that a grown man knocked to the ground and REPEATED KICKED in the head until nearly losing an ear was at fault...But hey, kids will be kids...

I'm so glad we have geniuses like FedUpAlarmist in our society...we don't need to waste time and money on a justice system anymore lmao! I have heard 2 very different versions of this story and unlike some of my fellow RVC residents I intend to wait until the facts are known before deciding how I feel about the incident.

wow...still amazed that Jackson has not made the press. Can anyone confirm if police are actually conducting an investigation?
FedUpRealist December 18, 2013 at 03:41 PM
Yes, Nigel they are and some people here aren't gonna like their findings...Children, CHILDREN (can you believe it?)- are in big trouble...Some people will be eating crow real soon...
Will Munny December 18, 2013 at 04:39 PM
I've heard eating crow is not a pleasant experience. Yet another reason to be sensible like me and not jump on either version of the story.

Is there a reason this was removed?? rvc_esq December 20, 2013 at 09:17 AM There may be a reason why the story of the retired policeman who was beaten up didn't hit the newspapers. There is a story going around town that the retired policeman who was beaten by local youths took pictures of himself as evidence and were given to the Rockville Centre Police and those pictures mysteriously disappeared? There are also allegations that one of the youths involved parent is big brass in the NYPD. The pieces are all falling into place....

Quiet Nigel!!!...You're casting aspersions and Will may chastise you for being smart enough to recognize the obvious...
Marc December 20, 2013 at 11:28 AM
If we're 29, pity the rest....
Nigel December 20, 2013 at 01:03 PM
@Marc - I hear you on that. Its a sad state of affairs when Floral Park, Glen Cove and Long Beach beats us out for "safety".
Nigel December 20, 2013 at 02:36 PM
Here's a cute story from Garden City. http://www.newsday.com/long-island/towns/long-island-now-1.1732330/youtube-video-of-garden-city-cop-threatening-to-ticket-man-for-washing-car-in-driveway-goes-viral-1.6647351
