RVC Man Arrested for Hempstead Homicide

A Rockville Centre man was arrested late Tuesday in connection to a fatal shooting that happened in Hempstead on Nov.4, police said.

James Rutledge, 20, of Rockville Centre, and Ramona Butler, 23, of Hempstead, were arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

According to Nassau County Homicide Detectives, on Nov. 4, Melvin Wells, 40, was found fatally shot on the sidewalk in front of 133 Linden Ave. in Hempstead at 8:35 p.m. A joint investigation involving the Homicide Squad, Rockville Centre Police Department, Bureau of Special Operations and Third Squad detectives led to the arrests of the two suspects.

Rutledge and Ramona will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
