RVC Duo Convicted in Yonkers Murder

Charles Parsley, 28, and Kasaun White, 29, both of Old Mill Court, were convicted in the murder of Sandra Hackley of Yonkers.

Two Old Mill Court residents were convicted Friday of killing a Yonkers woman and shooting her daughter and husband in April 2010.

Charles Parsley, 28, and Kasaun White, 29, both of Old Mill Court, were found guilty in the second-degree murder of Sandra Hackley, 36, and the shooting of her husband and 12-year-old daughter.

They face a maximum of 25 years to life in state prison and will be sentenced on May 22. The duo were convicted of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and first-degee burglary — all felonies.

According to a press release from the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, on April 21, 2010, Hackley returned to her apartment in Yonkers around 7:30 p.m.

White was recorded on video surveillance entering the apartment building dressed as a UPS delivery man. Parsley, who was dressed in street clothes, was caught on the building's lobby cameras pacing back and forth and looking out towards the street, prior to the arrival of Hackley, her family and White.

Rockville Centre Lieutenant Jim Vafeades, who attended the trial, said that Hackley's family was coincidentally waiting for a UPS package delivery and buzzed in White.

When Hackley's husband, Rafael Cornielle, opened the door to accept the "delivery," Vafeades said Parsley and White pushed it in and opened fire. A struggle with Cornielle and the two shooters ensued, and Cornielle was shot three times. During the melee, Hackley's 12-year-old daugher was shot in the leg and Parsley accidentally shot White. Vafeades said White and Parsley then put Hackley on her knees and shot her five times execution style.

Vafeades said that Parsley shooting White was key to their conviction since hosptial surveillance videos showed White receiving treatment for the wound at Mercy Medical Center hours after the Yonkers shooting. White told the court he had been shot in Hempstead.

“These defendants planned and carried out the murder of a woman, the shooting of her husband and twelve-year-old daughter, then calmly left the crime scene and were driven off," said Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore after the jury’s verdict.

Police said the two gunmen fled through the front door of the building, out onto Yonkers Avenue, where witnesses saw them enter a dark-colored pick up truck and flee. A third suspect, alleged getaway driver English Thomas, 28, of Uniondale, was arrested and charged with ten felony counts of murder, attempted murder, burglary, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence.

Thomas, who police said is a cousin of White, is awaiting trial.

Vafeades said Hackley's daughter was a hero in the fatal shooting. She called the police after the attack — even though she was shot — and identified the two shooters in court, he said. He added that Parsley and White's motive to kill Hackley was never revealed in court.

Vafeades explained that it is up to the judge to determine the length of White and Parsley's sentence. "We are hoping for 40 or more," he said. "But it looks like they'll be away for a long time."

White and Parsley will appeal the conviction, but no official appeal has been filed.

Gigi...Gigi...let's be honest the majority most likely have been in contact with the police and not in a good way. Aside from the kids I'd wager I'm right. I bet the police could post the statistics proving me such.

What a great representation of the RVC schools, such well put together sentences. Do you take care of your RVC bretheren when they get into the system??? If your "family are very close" then you know of all the wrongdoing they have done and as an officer of the law you should be ashamed for not coming forward about their crimes, but it's family right and in the community there's that ol' "no snitchin'" policy. Shame on you.

Wrong again KIA, they were raised to do just what they did.
CarlCarl March 21, 2012 at 02:33 AM
Yo Frank, don't forget the latest shooting which happened last night. Guess where? You only get one guess.
CarlCarl March 21, 2012 at 02:34 AM
Thank you Frank

I've seen them tom and I can say some don't have the same crime rate as OMC. FACT!
Tiffany March 21, 2012 at 04:16 AM
It's very funny how stories can be written for the bad. They wouldn't happen to put the inconsistencies and injustices that were also proven. But I guess once your labeled as a omc everything that's said about the alleged criminals is true. Just because your name stands behind the word "officer" doesn't always make them upstanding citizens!
Frank March 21, 2012 at 02:54 PM
@ Tiffany. where would you place the injustice? let's test your moral compass; A. The murdered woman? The child left motherless? The husband left to pick up the pieces of a destroyed family? B. Growing up in OMC in RVC? Two misguided youths that were improverished, deprived of basic social needs, ostracized from RVC society, and had no choice but to lead a life of crime? Point of contention: Were they deprived? Hmm, they're still alive, so they were not deprived of their lives (as Sandra was). Look forward to your reply.
Anthony March 21, 2012 at 11:53 PM
So when they hear the gunshots, what do they do? Do they call the cops? How come it seems most people in OMC turn a blind eye and do nothing? Some kid was killed in front of 30 people in front of the MLK centre. Too bad no one saw a thing...
Frank March 22, 2012 at 02:33 PM
@ Carl Carl. Amen to that. Pat is off the rocker!
Frank March 22, 2012 at 02:34 PM
that's the mantra from all the OMC sympathizers. Wonder what the Mayor would think if the projected tax revenue for 2013 drops 40% because detractors asked the tax-paying constituency to move... and did! Pat and the gang are morons.
Frank March 22, 2012 at 02:38 PM
@ Tiffany. Where's the clever response? your silence speaks volumes.
Frank March 22, 2012 at 02:49 PM
@ Anthony. It's part of their stupid code: snitches get stitches... or shot.

The spirit of a risen Christ this Lenten Season is far from overflowing from what I read in these comments. Crime in RVC surely exists in many areas of town. Certainly OMC has had its lions share. But trading insults and blame will not add to any resolution to the situation. It only adds to the tensions of an already problematic issue. Our Police have done yoeman work, but more cooperation between Residents of the OMC project area and Police are needed to weed out the criminal environment once and for all, in order that all the remaining project residents might live with the same peace and security the rest of the Village does. Yes it is possible, only if people of good will and intention, join together and make it so. Is it a difficult task? Yes it is !!! But peace and security is worth all the risks taken to have a safe home for yourselves and your children. You deserve a place to feel secure and those who do their drugs and shoot up your streets are the very reason you feel insecure and afraid to live like free Americans in your own neighborhoods. The Thugs in your neighborhoods are making you "slaves" in your own Village. You deserve the freedoms to live and play any place and any time of day in your town without fearing a drive-by shooting or turf war. Maybe a permanent Private Police Force and a gated Community setting would be an answer. But dialogue and not name-calling are only self-defeating. It's not about COLOR.....it's about CRIME !!!!!
Frank March 23, 2012 at 04:00 PM
@ EP Clark. Maybe you don't seem to understand the point that the problem will never end as long as OMC remains open section 8 housing. Peace and understanding will do nothing. OMC has been on fire with shootings, gang busts, murders... you name it. You need to raise hell, gain attention, something in order to tell NYS that RVC is sick and tired of this mess! You remove one troublemaker only to have another take its place. And there are plenty of others. For instance, there are thousands of wait-listed section 8 applicants for OMC! And none of them have a mandatory criminal background check as part of the application process! And no offense to your religious beliefs, I would prefer an Old Testament treatment of the OMC dilemma. OMC must either be shuttered or re-zoned for 65yr and older only.
honest wade March 25, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Kia if its so great why did nt you stay and raise your kids in OMC. Or why didnt you stay in RVC and throw you tax $ at OMC if its such a great cause?
Frank March 29, 2012 at 09:00 PM
@ Tiffany. Still waiting...
Frank March 29, 2012 at 09:01 PM
Get up and Get Get down, OMC is a joke in yo town.

Kia, Don't call residents of OMC your people, they are my people. I live within in a mile, raise my family, and of course pay lots of taxes, all w itching a mile of OMC, unlike you. These are my people more than yours, they better get their act straight, so we can live in a decent village. If my next door neighbor is doing the wrong thing, I let them know. Maybe Omc residents could step it up a bit. maybe you can go there and talk to some people there.
