Decorated RVC Cop Makes Major Drug Arrest on Sunrise

Defendant found with 72 bags of a substance believed to be cocaine.

A routine traffic stopped led to a major drug arrest for one Rockville Centre police officer last Thursday.

At appoximately 11:43 p.m., Rockville Centre Police Officer Stephen Reidy observed a speeding vehicle westbound on Sunrise Highway, police said. After stopping the vehicle, Reidy learned that the vehicle was unregistered and the driver, Sharmeak Riley, 42, of Valley Stream, had a suspended license.

Upon further investigation, Reidy discovered 72 plastic bags that contained a substance believed to be cocaine secreted in the vehicle, police said.

Riley’s vehicle was impounded and he was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (intent to sell) and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree. He was arraigned on Friday at First District Court.

Reidy is no stranger to making arrests in Rockville Centre. He was named "Cop of the Year" in 2011 after making 20 arrests in a 12-month stretch.
