Crime Watch, Part II: Resident Extorted for $3K, Screw Gun Incident

Recent police activity as reported by the RVCPD.

Larceny

  • On Jan. 21 at 5:39 p.m., complainant from North Babylon reported that unknown person(s) stole a Toshiba Thrive tablet valued at $250 from his unlocked 2005 Toyota motor vehicle parked at the RVC Best Western, located at 173 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre, between 3 p.m. on Jan. 18 and 12 p.m. Jan. 21.
  • On Jan. 22 at 1:34 p.m., a complainant from N. Village Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that an unknown male stole a UPS delivery valued at $30 from the front of the residence at approximately 11:30 a.m.
  • On Jan. 23 at 6:45 p.m., a complainant from Oceanside reported that at 4:22 p.m., unknown person(s) stole his Apple iPhone, valued at $499, from the Capitol One located at 77 Lincoln Ave. in Rockville Centre.
  • On Jan. 24 at 10:44 a.m., a complainant from Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) removed $100 from her wallet that went missing from the restroom while at Hewitt School, located at 445 Hempstead Ave. in Rockville Centre, on Jan. 23.
  • On Jan. 25 at 12:15 a.m., a complainant from Bellmore reported that a co-worker from George Martin Restaurant, located at 65 N. Park Ave. in Rockville Centre, stole $50 from her wallet that was in the manager’s office since 7 p.m. on Jan. 24.
  • On Jan. 25 at 1:56 p.m., a complainant from Oceanside reported that unknown person(s) removed her pocketbook containing a Motorola cell phone valued at $500, credit cards and $14 from the floor in the vicinity of a self check-out station at King Kullen, located at 127 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
  • On Jan. 25 at 12:50 p.m, a complainant from Oceanside reported that a subject from California used a fraudulent credit card to pay for the transport of two vehicles from Marlboro, NY, to North Highlands, Ca., at 123 Auto Transport, located at 203 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.

Unauthorized Use

  • On Jan. 23 at 10:23 a.m., a complainant from U-Haul, located at 230 Maple Ave. in Rockville Centre, reported that since Oct. 26, 2012, a Long Beach resident has possessed a 2011 U-Haul trailer and storage unit without permission.

Unusual Incident

  • On Jan. 22 at 8:31 p.m., a complainant from Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) made unauthorized purchases in Delaware totaling $1,569 against her American Express account.
  • On Jan. 23 at 9:32 p.m., a 14-year-old complainant from Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) sent text messages causing annoyance and alarm.
  • On Jan. 23 at 2:30 p.m., a complainant from 176 N. Village Ave. in Rockville Centre reported that a subject from College Point refused to pay $500 for cosmetic treatment.
  • On Jan. 23 at 10:11 p.m., a complainant from Child Protective Services requested that police personnel conduct a well-being check at a Lincoln Court, Rockville Centre residence; no further police action was required.

Extortion

  • On Jan. 26 at 4 p.m., a complainant from Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) called claiming to have kidnapped her son and demanding that she wire a total of $3,100 to Puerto Rico via Western Union. After complying with the demands, the complainant then determined that none of her children had been kidnapped; they were safe and unharmed.

Menacing

  • On Jan. 27 at 5:09 p.m., a complainant from N. Forest Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that sometime in November of 2012, a male friend from Freeport threatened her with a screw gun while repairing a door lock causing her to be fearful and alarmed.

I have two comments: If you want to contact the Village, contact Mayor Francis X. Murray. I don'tRead More know what block you live on. But on my block, the leaf blowers are DAILY and at ANY time of day. It is horrible noise pollution.

What about the prostitutes that stay at the area hotels. we stayed at best western on sunriseRead More highway after sandy and we were approached at least 3x's. besides getting bed bug bites. The manager said its a problem in all the hotels
