Cops: RVC Man Threatened, Robbed Taxi Driver

A Rockville Centre man was arrested at 11:50 p.m. Thursday after he allegedly threatened and stole from a taxi driver in Hempstead.

According to police, Anthony Tshombe, 31, entered a Taxi Latino cab on Jackson Street at 6:17 p.m and asked the 30-year-old victim to take him to Terrace Street in Hempstead. As the vehicle approached Margaret Court, Tshombe allegedly placed a hard object, which cops believed to be a gun, against the back of the victim's head and demanded money.

After allegedly taking cash and the victim's cell phone, Tshombe fled. The incident was not reported.

Later in the evening, the victim was picking up a passenger on South Franklin Street when Tshombe reentered the vehicle. He allegedly told the victim he could have his cell phone back if he took him to Terrace Avenue. The driver radioed for assistance in Spanish, and he was met by Hempstead Police. Anthony was arrested, and no weapon was recovered, cops said.

Tshombe was charged with first-degree robbery and his arraignment is scheduled for Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
