Police are searching for a man they said robbed a Rockville Centre bank early Friday afternoon, Nassau Detectives said.

Robbery Squad said an unidentified man entered TD Bank on Merrick Road and presented a demand note to the teller. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the subject fled east on the north side of Merrick Avenue on foot, cops said.

The robbery happened at 2:15 p.m. Friday. Seven employees and one customer were present at the time, but none were reportedly injured.

The subject is described as a black man, 55-60 years old, and was 5 feet 10 inches tall. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark baseball cap, a dark hooded jacket, a scarf, and jeans, cops said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

amazing how quickly our village has fallen apart. It amazes me the amount of crime over the last 18+ months. Where is the element coming from? What is the common factor leading to this type of crime? Between what's going on in Oceanside (burger king, the gap, dress barn, and 2 banks all robbed in the last month...common theme to the background of each robber) and RVC, it seems very reminiscent of Brooklyn/The Bronx in the 1960s. Population demographics changed very quickly in that time due to a small group of people committing an insane amount of crime. Families fled very quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the same thing here in the next 2-3 years. Mayor Murray, pay attention to what's going on please....
