Cops: Bicyclist in Critical Condition After Baldwin Accident

Man suffered severe head trauma and other injuries after he was struck by a car early Saturday.

A man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car in Baldwin early Saturday morning, according to Nassau County Police.

Detectives said the victim, an unidentified 38-year-old, was riding his bicycle east on Grand Terrace Avenue in Baldwin when he was struck by a car. The 2010 Toyota was driven by a 45-year-old female and was northbound on Grand Avenue, cops said.

The accident happened at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, police reported.

The man "suffered severe trauma to the head and body" as well as multiple fractures to his body, cops said. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance for treatment and was last reported in "critical condition," according to police.

The car that struck him passed all safety inspections at the scene. Detectives said they do not suspect any criminality in the accident.
