NYC Walk4Hearing

Long Islanders can register now to join the NYC Walk4Hearing Sunday, September 29th in Riverside Park!

Is someone you know or love affected by hearing loss?
More than 1,500 New Yorkers from the five boroughs and Long Island will gather for the sixth annual NYC Walk4Hearing on Sunday, September 29, 2013 in New York City’s Riverside Park. Organized by the Hearing Loss Association of America’s (HLAA) Manhattan Chapter, the event raises awareness of the challenges facing 48 million Americans with hearing loss and their families.  The event provides education about hearing loss, helps erase the stigma associated with it, and raises funds for programs and services.

Check-in for registration is at 9:00 AM, and Walk begins at 10:00 AM. The 5K route starts and ends at W. 97th St. The event features children’s activities, refreshments, giveaways, free hearing screenings, prizes, state-of-the-art hearing technology, including captioned Walk announcements delivered via smartphones.

Pre-register at www.walk4hearing.org.  Walk teams and individual walkers from the Metro area are welcome. Same-day registration is also available.

The Walk4Hearing was created in 2006 by the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) to raise awareness about hearing loss as a public health issue and to eradicate the stigma associated with it. The Walk brings together a wide range of groups including parents of children with hearing loss, aging baby boomers, young adults, and returning veterans.  HLAA is the nation’s leading consumer membership and advocacy group for the 48 million Americans challenged by hearing loss. Funds raised by the Walks in major cities support educational programs and services, and critical national and local advocacy work.

With national headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), founded in 1979, opens the world of communication to people with hearing loss through information, education, advocacy and support.  In addition to the Walk4Hearing program, HLAA publishes the bimonthly Hearing Loss Magazine, holds annual conventions, advocates for the rights of people with hearing loss, and has an extensive network of chapters and state organizations across the country.  For more information, visit www.hearingloss.org.
