What Do You Think of New Coupon Meters?

The company behind Rockville Centre’s new coupon-printing parking meters has made improvements to the devices in the first weeks of their operation.

The devices, a partnership between Parkeon and Mastercard, went live on Oct. 21 on Park Avenue, said Sean Renn, marketing director for Parkeon. More than 4,000 parking transaction were completed as of Monday at the 10 units, he said.

The tweaks mostly dealt with the user interface, with easier to read graphics and text that is easier to read on the street, according to Renn. The keyboard layout was also changed.

“One of the key elements we’ve worked at is improving ease of use,” Renn said.

Another software patch is expected to be installed on Tuesday to make parking transactions easier and faster to get to, Renn said.

About 50 merchants are already participating in the program. And although there was initially a fee for merchants to appear on the screen, it will be waived in November. Parkeon and Mastercard plan to speak with merchants soon to see how many coupons are being redeemed.

“It is a three-month trial period,” Trustee Michael Sepe said. “We ask the public to remain patient.”
