From exotic birds to every day pets, Parrots of the World on Sunrise Highway is a one-stop-shop for all of your animal needs. This week, owner and television personality Marc Morrone discusses the ins and outs of running a pet shop.
Tell us about what you offer in your pet store.
We have a 10,000 square foot pet store filled with lots of animals. We are kid-friendly, parent-friendly, and really just family-friendly. We started out specializing in birds when we first opened in the 1970s, but have since branched out to include all types of pets.

How did you first get into the animal business?
I have been an animal-lover all my life and I’ve always had pets. When I graduated high school, I figured I should get my animals out of my parents’ house, so I decided to open up a pet store.

What made you choose RVC to open your store?
We’ve been located here since 1978. I need to be close to JFK airport since we’re always shipping animals in and out for customers. RVC is great because it allows me to be close enough to the airport yet central enough on Long Island to bring in customers from all over.
You’re also in the media often, correct?
Yes, I’m on television everyday and I write a pet column for Newsday. My TV show is called “Pet Keeping” and it airs on the Hallmark Channel. My media appearances help to bring people to RVC from all over the world.
What sets Parrots of the World apart from other pet stores?
All the animals in our store are kept in very clean surroundings. We really pride ourselves on taking the best care of our animals.
