Business Q&A: Jeannine’s Boutique

Longtime Rockville Centre resident Jeannine Palladino sells custom and personalized products.

If you’re looking for a unique gift for a special occasion, Jeannine’s Boutique on North Park Avenue has something to suit every taste, from monogrammed baby products to personalized magnetic boards. Here, owner Jeannine Palladino discusses the ins and outs of running a small business in RVC.

What types of products does Jeannine’s Boutique offer?

We sell gifts and accessories and we specialize in custom and personalized products. We have an embroiderer on staff, who we call the Monogramming Mama. She creates the most adorable baby gifts and does specialty monogramming on our merchandise.

What’s the best part of owning a business in RVC?

It’s definitely the customers. I grew up in RVC and my boys went to school here, so I know a lot of people in town. It has given my store a real hometown feel. I’ve gotten to know so many new people in town, too. I love meeting my customers’ kids and watching them grow up. I also love watching old friends bump into each other in the store and catch up.

When did your store first open?

I have been in business almost eight years. I do not have a retail background, but I thought RVC could use a store like mine with a warm and friendly shopping atmosphere. I kind of jumped in blind, but I had so much support from the community, my family and my friends, so it has really been wonderful.

Do you offer any special promotions or discounts for your customers?

I usually tie all of my discounts into a local charity. This month we will be collecting nonperishable items for the local Outreach organization and customers who donate items will receive 20 percent off their purchase. In December, we will have a shopping day to support Adopt-A-Family. Customers will receive 10 percent off and Adopt-A-Family will get 10 percent of all sales for the day. I usually try to make my sales meaningful for the community.

What do you hope people get out of their experience at Jeannine’s?

I want people to come into my store and feel the happy place that it is. I want them to know that it is a place where they can come and feel welcome and always get great customer service, beautiful gifts, and possibly even a new friend or two.
