80-Year-Old Couple Mugged in Parking Lot Near Sunrise

Suspect on the loose after Wednesday night robbery.

An 80-year-old couple was mugged Wednesday night as they were walking in a parking lot near Sunrise Highway and Park Avenue in Rockville Centre.

According to Nassau County detectives, at 7:29 p.m., a male suspect approached an 80-year-old woman and her 83-year-old husband, who were walking in the rear parking lot of 278 Sunrise Highway.

The suspect pulled on the woman's purse and pushed her to the ground, police said. The husband attempted to chase the suspect, but tripped and fell to the ground.

The suspect fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction with the victim’s purse, containing credit cards, cash and keys, police said.

North Shore Ambulance transported the woman and her husband, who both sustained lacerations to the face, to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s, approximately 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, wearing dark clothing. No further description was available.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will be anonymous.

Wednesday's robbery comes just three days after a woman was thrown to the ground and robbed of her cell phone while walking along N. Centre Avenue near the LIRR station Sunday night.

The incidents are believed to be unrelated.
