Rain Forces Village Concert Indoors

Plaza Productions Theatre Group switches venue, but rain doesn't dampen spirits.

Rain showers forced the latest installment of the Rockville Centre Village Green Concert Series indoors to the John Anderson Recreation Center on Thursday night.

The change in venue did not deter Plaza Productions from putting on a heartfelt performance of "Goin' Hollywood," a theatrical/musical revue and retrospective of Hollywood standards.

"We had to move inside, but it won't damper things," said Stage Manager Edward Kyle, as performers scurried around back stage making last minute adjustments. He then referenced a classic show-biz line to punctuate the spirit of the evening. "The show must go on," he said with a smile.

Musical Director Steve Goldstein sat in the "pit" and cranked out timeless classic tunes after another. Some featured selections included Blue Skies, We're in the Money, Sound of Music, Singin' in the Rain and Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Judging by the sparse but enthusiastic, foot tapping, sing-a-long crowd at the Anderson Recreation Center, which featured people from as young as eight years old to 80, most enjoyed the performance.
