Friends of Mercy Medical Center Golf Outing Raises $30K

Proceeds from event supports Mercy's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Skies were threatening early on, but the spirit of generosity of sponsors and players enabled The Friends of Mercy Medical Center to raise $30,000 at its 31st Annual Golf Classic.

A field of nearly 90 golfers enjoyed play on July 23 at the Hempstead Golf & Country Club, followed by a post-outing dinner honoring Dr. Michael H. Brisman of Neurological Surgery, P.C. — the largest private neurosurgery practice on Long Island and in the New York Tri-state area — which has been a sustaining sponsor of the Golf Classic, and has provided generous ongoing support for all of The Friends major fundraising events for years.

The Golf Classic was co-chaired for a third consecutive year by Joseph and Thomas Graham of Rockville Centre, co-founders of JJT Energy, a firm supplying natural gas to the commercial and residential market.

Proceeds from this event supported Mercy's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the only such facility on the south shore of Nassau County. Mother/Baby services are at the core of Mercy's mission and the funds raised at the Golf Classic help make it possible for the hospital to assist mothers and babies throughout the community, including the less fortunate and the uninsured.

Over the past five years, the Friends have raised $1.5 million to support hospital facilities.
