Van Bursts Into Flames Near Mercy Medical

The Rockville Centre Fire Department extinguished the blaze in 30 minutes.

A van that burst into flames on Peninsula Boulevard across from Friday morning was extinguished by the Rockville Centre Fire Department within a half hour, officials said.

According to officials, at 8:03 a.m. Friday morning, the RVC FD received an alarm for a van fire on the southbound side of Peninsula Boulevard. Reliance Hose Company No. 3 was first to arrive followed by Defenders Hose Company No. 1.

Early investigations point to the fire starting in the engine area of the van, and firefighters put out the blaze within 30 minutes, officials said.

Nassau County Police closed the southbound side of Peninsula and directed its traffic to N. Village Avenue to allow the RVC FD to put out the fire.

There were no injuries reported.
