Nassau Dems Select RVC Resident to Run for County Clerk

Nassau County Democrats have chosen Rockville Centre resident Laura Gillen to run against Republican County Clerk Maureen O'Connell in November.

Gillen officially announced her candidacy for county clerk Wednesday night in Seaford.

“I’m extremely excited to be running on the Democratic ticket with Tom Suozzi this year,” she said. “This election is not about politics, it’s about realizing a vision for what Nassau County can be. Tom Suozzi and I share that vision, and I’m excited to work day in and day out to make it a reality.”

Gillen, 43, is a practicing attorney at the Uniondale-based Westerman Ball Ederer Miller & Sharfstein, LLP.

Gillen, a Georgetown graduate, resides in Rockville Centre with her husband and four young children. She is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and a parishioner of St. Agnes Cathedral, where she serves as a catechist.

The 62-year-old O’Connell has served two consecutive terms as county clerk.
