Rangers Alumni to Reopen Sandy-Battered Arena

The Long Beach Ice Arena has been closed since being slammed by Sandy.

Ron Duguay and Stephane Matteau once raced zambonis in Manhattan.

Matteau also scored perhaps the biggest goal in New York Rangers history.

Now, Duguay and Matteau will join Brian Mullen, Jay Wells, Pete Stemkowski, Gilles Villemure, Peter Ferraro and Chris Ferraro at the Long Beach Ice Arena on Saturday, when the former Rangers help reopen the rink that closed after it was battered by Sandy.

The Rangers will play with city officials at a special exhibition game at 6 p.m. A family skating session and hockey clinic will take place at 3 p.m.

As reported earlier, tickets for the Sept. 28 exhibition game are on sale at the Recreation Center on Magnolia Boulevard for $15. Proceeds will go to the City of Long Beach Relief efforts.

The Ferraro brothers are from Port Jefferson and Chris also played 11 games with the New York Islanders during the 1999-2000 season, but chances are he won't be wearing an orange and blue jersey next weekend.
