Vineyard Church Hosts Free Thanksgiving Dinner

All are welcome at the annual holiday supper from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

While most residents will be celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday with their families, a number of them will be volunteering their time at the in Rockville Centre, which is hosting a free turkey dinner for those in need from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"It's a wonderful time to really give thanks for what God has given us," said The Rev. Steve Munson, one of three pastors of the merged congregations from its Lynbrook and Rockville Centre locations. "It's great. It's really wonderful."

The church will serve turkey, ham, mashed and sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, a dessert table and more at the annual holiday dinner.

Munson said the church has hosted the free turkey dinner for at least the past 15 years, and it has become a very successful community event. While there are needy residents that come for the free meal, Munson said, many members of the congregation also come to spend the holiday with one another.

"You don't necessarily have to be in need," he said. "Some people might be alone on the holiday … it's a great time to be around other people."

The church is still looking for volunteers to help serve and greet people. For more information, call Vineyard Church at 516-678-7888.
