VIDEO: Firefighters Ignite Rib Rivalry And Burger Battle
RVC and four other departments compete in the 2011 Fairway Firefighters BBQ cook-off.
At the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Centre in Uniondale, fire departments from Syosset, North Massapequa, Rockville Centre, Bethpage, and Freeport lit up their grills and put together their best BBQ platters.
The food was critiqued by a panel of judges that included chef turned “Sopranos” Actor Joseph Gannascoli, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, Anton Community Newspapers and Boulevard Magazine Publisher Angela Anton and Fairway’s own master butcher and TV personality, Ray Venezia.
The Firefighter Rib Rivalry and Burger Battle is sponsored by Fairway Market, which supplied each team of firefighters with a $100 shopping card to pick up its ribs, burgers, toppings, secret ingredients and spices. These firehouse chefs turned their creative shopping night into delectable BBQ ribs and burgers.

Syosset Firehouse took home the top prize, a $250 gift card to Fairway and a trophy from the Nassau County Firefighters Museum. In second was North Massapequa FD, followed by Bethpage FD in third. Both received trophies and a $50 gift card to Fairway.
