United Church Nursery Welcomes RVC FD on Community Helpers Day

Volunteers show youngsters what to do in case of a fire.

This week, volunteers from the RVC Fire Department came to United Church Nursery School to show the preschool children what to do in case of a fire.

The children took turns trying on equipment and practiced "stop, drop and roll" drills. The firemen went over what to do in an emergency and the students recited, "911."

The children got a good look at what a fireman looks like with all of his equipment on, including a mask so they would not be afraid if they ever saw them in a real emergency.  The children also practiced screaming, "I am here!" The volunteers ended by allowing the children to take turns turning on the firehose and climbing in the truck. All the children went home with hats. Many thanks to the volunteer fireman for taking out the time to teach these valuable lessons to our students!!
