Local Yoga Studio Hosts Fundraiser for Cancer Research

Revolution Yoga donated a portion of the proceeds from its yoga class to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

On April 2, Revolution Yoga on North Village Avenue held a special yoga class to fundraise for a worthy cause.

Dozens of local runners paid $25 to take the hour-long class, with sixty percent of the total proceeds being donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Arianna Golub, a cancer survivor, organized the event to support Team In Training, a group that trains for marathons and triathlons while raising money for LLS.

“We had an intimate turnout on Saturday, which contributed to the over $2,700 that Arianna raised for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,” said Amanda DiGiovanna, owner of Revolution Yoga. “It's important for local businesses to support charitable causes like this because non-profits are sometimes the lifeline of the people they support.”

Golub was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age six, and although she has been cancer-free for several years, she dedicates her spare time to raising funds and awareness for those who are still fighting the disease.

“I pride myself on being an individual who wants to help make the world a better and healthier place to live in,” said Golub on her blog. “All of us on Team in Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, and myeloma from taking more lives.”

Rebecca Gathmann, a yoga instructor and avid runner, taught Saturday’s class. After the yoga session, participants enjoyed an assortment of healthy refreshments arranged by Golub.

On June 5, Golub will see her fundraising efforts pay off when she represents Team In Training in the San Diego Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon. “I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are still battling blood cancers today,” Golub said.

According to DiGiovanna, Revolution Yoga will host an additional yoga class for runners in the coming weeks to support Team In Training. Details will be sent out to the mailing list at revolution-yoga.com.
