Two South Side Baseball Players Named to Top 100 List

David Hawley and Louis Matarazzo look to lead Cyclones to county title.

South Side seniors David Hawley and Louis Matarazzo were recently named as Long Island Baseball Magazine's top 100 high school seniors.

The duo was voted onto the list by coaches from across Long Island.

According to Baseball Player Magazine, Hawley, a centerfielder, broke the South Side school record for putouts in a season during his sophomore year.

During the 2012 season, Hawley batted .337 with 14 RBIs, earning him the honor of All-Conference in the process.

Matarazzo was a finalist for the Diamond Award in 2012 as one of Nassau County's best players.

The third baseman was named Conference A-II MVP in 2012 after posting a .433 batting average with three home runs and 23 RBIs. Matarazzo's numbers were also good enough to be named second team All-State.

Matarazzo was an All-County player as a sophomore in 2011.

South Side's 2013 season begins on April 1 at 4:30 p.m. when the Cyclones host Manhasset at Barasch Field.
