St. Agnes Girls CYO Hoops Wins Diocese Championship
Finishes 15-1 and wins inaugural CYO Classic tournament.
After a very successful 11-1 regular season, the St. Agnes sixth grade girls B team swept through the Nassau/Suffolk playoffs to win the Diocese Championship. In the finals, the team played flawlessly in defeating St. Mary's of Manhasset, 29-14, at Holy Trinity High School.
On March 3, the team participated in the inaugural CYO Classic, which matched the winner of the Nassau/Suffolk championship against the winner of the Brooklyn/Queens championship. Continuing with the fine play and suffocating defense that exemplified their season, the St. Agnes team defeated Our Lady of Hope from Middle Village, Queens, 32-12, thus becoming the first St. Agnes CYO basketball team to ever win the CYO Classic tournament.
In building their overall 15-1 record, the girls consistently demonstrated team work, sportsmanship, a commitment to defense and an eagerness to practice and improve each week.
