The key to South Side High School junior Kieran McCarthy’s county championship win was discipline, said his coach.

Chris Webster, coach of the cross country team, told Dr. William Johnson on the latest episode of “Exploring Our Schools” that runners are driven by nature, and strive to improve themselves.

“It’s an interesting dichotomy between trying to become a better runner personally and also trying to improve the team,” he said. “They’re there for all the right reasons. It’s a pleasure and privilege to coach the team.”

Along with Webster, also appearing on the episode was McCarthy and Lauren McDonough, a previous champion. You can watch the full episode, which posted yesterday, here.

Congrats to Kieran! Wonder how much they had to pay Dr. Johnson to appear? We know that man gets paid.
