The South Side High School boys and girls basketball team are both headed to the playoffs.
The defending Nassau County champion boys team comes into the 2013 Class A postseason ranked No. 8.
Gerald Mitchell, Brendan Mcderby and Alex Sorenson have helped the Cyclones to a 6-4 season in Conference A-I and a 7-7 overall record. The trio, along with outside shooter Paul Pandolfi, will have its hands full against the ninth-seeded Roosevelt Rough Riders, who boast a roster full of scorers.
The boys tip off at 6 p.m. Friday at South Side High School.
The Lady Cyclones also managed to grab an eight seed and will face ninth-seeded Manhasset in the first round.
At 7-4 in Conference A-I and 10-6 overall, the Lady Cyclones are among the more balanced-scoring teams in the playoffs. The team's leaders on the court this year have been Jessica Hawley, Hanna Merrifield, Bridget Kiernan and Juliana Pellegrini.
The girls tip off at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at South Side High School.
