RVC Man Named New Head of Athletics at Adelphi

Danny McCabe, of Rockville Centre, will be Adelphi University’s next director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, the school announced today.

McCabe, the current executive associate athletic director at Hofstra University, succeeds Robert Hartwell, who announced his retirement earlier this spring after serving in the role for 26 years. The appointment is effective July 8.

“I look forward to working with the Adelphi community, alumni and program supporters. I would also like to thank President [Robert] Scott, Dr. Lauren Mounty, and the committee for their support and confidence as we embark on an exciting time in Adelphi Athletics history,” McCabe said in a release.

“I am truly inspired by Adelphi University and its commitment to the complete student-athlete and I am excited about the opportunity to continue to stress the importance of having Adelphi act as a leader in the Northeast-10 and Division II on the field of play and in the classroom," he added.

At Hofstra, McCabe was a part of the Pride Intercollegiate Athletic program for the past eight years. He played a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of the department and spearheaded Hofstra’s NCAA Certification process.

McCabe also played a large role in developing and implementing the University’s five-year plan for athletics. He also served as the chairman of the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals Organizing Committee at Hofstra in 2009 and 2011.

“Mr. McCabe adds further distinction to our athletics, intramural, and recreation programs. This is an especially exciting time to be part of Panther Athletics as we just captured our first NE-10 President’s Cup since joining the conference in 2009,” Scott said. “Panther Athletics is poised to continue this success and Mr. McCabe’s experience adds additional depth to our program. As Athletic Director, he will continue to foster our sustained focus on Division II’s core value of a commitment to the student athlete. I am pleased to welcome him to the Adelphi family.”

Prior to Hofstra, McCabe worked at the University of Miami and Providence College, the latter of which he graduated from in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He earned a MBA degree from Fairfield University in 2004.
