PLAYOFFS: Girls Soccer Completes Perfect Season as State Champs

Lady Cyclones claim 17th state title with 2-0 win over Janesville Dewitt.

The South Side Lady Cyclones completed their perfect season and grabbed their second straight New York State Class A championship Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Janesville Dewitt at Cortland University.

The Lady Cyclones finished the season at 19-0-1 with Sunday's victory, which also marked the 17th state title in team history.

Midfielder Michaela Lynch saved her biggest game of the playoffs first last, scoring the game's first goal on an assist from Christina Klaum in the first half.

Lynch returned the favor in the second half, assisting on a goal by Klaum and giving South Side a 2-0 lead.

"[It feels] absolutely amazing," South Side head coach Shannon McEntee told Patch. "This group is so special to me. I'm so proud and happy for them -- they earned this."

The Lady Cyclones defeated Cornwall 1-0 in the semifinals Saturday on the strength of a goal from junior Katie Ford.
