Former Cyclone Named to Elite All-Star Team

James Howard was selected to the National High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Regional Team.

Former Cyclone right fielder and clean-up hitter James Howard continues to rack up the accolades for his stellar 2011 senior season.

Howard, who now plays for Tufts University, was recently named to the National High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Regional Team. Howard secured one of the 16 spots on the New England Regional Team, which is composed of the best players from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. 

Howard was one of two players selected from Long Island. In lacrosse, this would be called the All-American Regional Team.

The senior captain/clean-up hitter finished the 2011 season tied for the team lead in batting average (.410), led the team in RBIs (31), second in doubles (5), runs scored (25) and finished tied for the team lead with 32 hits. Howard reached base in more than 50 percent of his plate appearances and only struck out 10 times during the season.

Of the 16 players selected to the team, nine were drafted into Major League Baseball, including Tyler Beede who was drafted in the first round by the Toronto Blue Jays, and William Jerez, who was taken in the second round by the Boston Red Sox.
