Cyclones Pound Wantagh, 22-6

South Side sends 14 batters to the plate in the second, score nine times.

The Wantagh Warriors went through three pitchers in the first three innings of Tuesday's game at Barasch Field, but none could stop a scorching-hot South Side lineup, which put up 20 runs in four innings. The Cyclones  (6-3) won its sixth consecutive game of the season, topping the Warriors, 22-6.

The game didn't start well for Warriors pitcher Greg Welch. Wantagh's defense committed three errors in the first inning, leading to four unearned South Side runs. Louis Matarazzo (2-for-3, 4 RBIs, 3 runs scored) drove in Evan Singer and James Howard for South Side's first two runs. Andrew Talbot (3-for-4, 4 RBIs, 3 runs scored) and Dylan Leary (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, run scored) each followed with RBI singles to increase South Side's lead to 4-0.

The second inning wasn't any better for Welch.

Talbot and Kane each added two-RBI doubles. Evan Singer and Leary chipped in RBI singles and Howard added his second RBI single of the inning to increase South Side's lead to 13-0. Fourteen batters came to the plate during the second, but unfortunately for Wantagh, it wouldn't be the last time South Side batted around in an inning.

In the fourth, South Side sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven more times. Eddie Tammaro, a sophomore seeing his first action of the year, capped off the inning with a bases-loaded, 3-RBI triple to increase the score to 20-1.

Lost in the offensive explosion was South Side southpaw Christian Colletti (1-2), who picked up his first win of the season. The lefty threw 60 pitches over four innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits, while striking out five and walking one.

South Side rematches with Wantagh tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in Wantagh.
