Duo Raising Money to Open Independent Bookstore

Long Island women want to bring bookstore to Rockville Centre.

Two women are raising $150,000 to bring an independent bookseller to Rockville Centre.

Carol Hoenig and Peggy Zieran will use their combined 35 years of bookselling experience to open Turn of the Corkscrew Books & Wine.

The duo is currently holding a fundraising campaign on IndieGoGo.com through July 27. The campaign has already raised $5,300 and is aiming to reach $150,000 by their deadline.

“We know what we want to offer, but we also know that location is very important," said Hoenig, saying RVC's proximity to Manhattan and the store's location near the LIRR "will be great for publishers sending their authors on tour."

Hoenig and Zieran both have experience working for Borders Books & Music and want to bring a welcoming vibe to the village.
