Voter's Guide: Rockville Centre School Budget, Board Elections

What you need to know for Tuesday's budget vote and school board election.

Rockville Centre School District residents will vote on the district's $103,136,754 budget for the 2014-15 school year Tuesday.

The proposal calls for a 2.37 percent budget-to-budget increase from last year and a 1.78 percent tax levy increase.

Read more in the district's budget pamphlet here.

Incumbent Mayda Kramer, incumbent Gregg Spaulding, and Lynda Rubino are running for the Board of Education. Read their candidate biographies here.

Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at South Side High School.

I am truly amazed that you haven't bother to correct a major error in stating that Lynda Rubino, is an incumbent while she has never served as a BOE Trustee. Mayda Kramer & Gregg Spauldiing are the incumbents that have dedicated their time for years in making proactive decisions that keep our district and community thriving.

Mayda Kramer and Gregg Spaulding are the only two incumbents in this race. Both have done an excellent job in their positions on the board. Mayda & Gregg were also endorsed by the Herald and by the RVC Teachers’ Association. As the only candidates with children attending RVC public schools, Mayda & Gregg have years of valuable, in depth experience with our school system. As a parent with two SSHS students, I trust that Mayda and Gregg will continue providing an excellent education for our children while ensuring that the budget continues to remain below the tax cap.

All three candidates pay the same school taxes based on their property values, regardless of the number of children or lack there of i the school district. Whether they attend SSHS or are educated in California. As members of the school district they are all entitled to your vote. The title of parent of a student at SSHS does not convey any insight into the qualifications of any of these three candidates. Again good luck to the three candidates for the RVC school Board.
