District Students' Art Work Showcased at TD Bank

RVC School District art students display artwork and perform musical acts at inaugural event.

It isn’t very often that students get to display their artwork outside of school. But thanks to the Rockville Centre Sponsors of the Arts and TD Bank, select visual and performing art students got to do just that on Wednesday night at the .

The night, billed as "An Evening of Art and Music," featured performances from music students from both and . Performers played instruments ranging from the violin to the ukulele.

“TD Bank is one of our biggest contributors,” RVC Sponsors of the Arts President Michelle Kildunne said of the idea for the inaugural event. “We put our heads together and said ‘How can we get the students displaying their art and performing (skills) outside of the school?' TD Bank offered us their venue and we put it together. They were a driving force behind this.”

Olivia Dowden, Tess Siegel, Quinn Lysaght and Nic Marcotrigiano were among the students who delighted the audience with vocal solos during the evening. As the assembled onlookers listened to the 90-minute musical showcase, they viewed artwork from students in South Side High School’s IB art class.

Ali Bartoldis was one of the students whose artwork was on display. Bartoldis‘ piece featured a self portrait with colors dripping on her face. The drawing took her about one week to complete.

Bartoldis is a senior at the high school and will be attending SUNY New Paltz in the fall. She has been involved in the art program for all four years at South Side.

“I like the curriculum because it introduces all of us students to different kinds of art, how we can relate ourselves to those different types of art, and use those different types of styles in our own art,” Bartoldis said of her time in the art program.

RVC Sponsors of the Arts wants to make sure students like Baroldis continue to pursue their passion after high school. Each year, the organization awards private study and college scholarships to deserving activists.

It is their hope that events like “An Evening of Art and Music” will help advance that cause and increase overall awareness of local art within the community.
