PLAYOFFS: Cyclones Stave Off Elimination, Win Game Two 9-4

South Side bounces back to beat Plainedge and force a decisive Game 3.

After getting of their best-of-three Class A seminfinal series against Plainedge on Wednesday, the No. 3 seeded Cyclones were faced with their biggest challenge of the season on Thursday: win or go home.

The Cyclones showed their grit and resilience on Thursday, beating Plainedge 9-4 to force a decisive Game 3. The winner will play in the Nassau County Class A finals.

Head Coach Keith Lessuk went with starting pitcher Mike Schuermann, who tossed his third complete game of the season, striking out three and giving up four runs on five hits.

Louie Laupheimer and Ben Hoefer ignited the Cyclones offense, delivering three hits a piece and combining for five RBI. Lou Matarazzo also connected for his third home run of the season.

The Cyclones will play the rubber game of the three-game set at 4:30 p.m. today at Barasch Field with a spot in the county finals on the line.
