Op-Ed: Lynda Rubino Asks RVC Residents for Support

The following is from Rockville Centre Board of Education candidate Lynda Rubino:

To the Editor,

The time is right in the Rockville Centre community to elect an independent voice to the Board of Education. That voice is mine. I will bring an objective view to the Board and will ensure academic excellence in a fiscally responsible environment. I will be a Board member that will question, challenge and be accountable to our residents.

Scare tactics are being used by my opposition to imply that independence means lack of concern for our children and radical change. What a short-sighted view. The success of this community depends on the success of our young generation. We need to ensure that our children are career and college ready and become responsible members of this community. However, we need to ensure that they can afford to live here, and by continuing on this path of rising taxes, we are pricing out the next generation.

I don't operate using scare tactics. If we are truly committed to our children we will teach them now that all members of our community have a right to a voice and that choices, although different from our own, must be respected. In order to be a strong community, we must be a united one.

It's time for a change, and therefore I ask for your vote on Tuesday, May 21. Please vote from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. at South Side High School.
