Nicalek's Double-Double Leads Molloy Volleyball to Win Over Post

Lady Lions win match 3-1; improve to 2-0 on season.

Junior outside/right-side hitter Angelica Nicalek recorded her second double-double in as many matches on Tuesday night with 13 kills and 13 digs to lead Molloy's volleyball team past Post University 3-1 at Quealy Gymnasium.

The win improved the Lions overall record to 2-0.

In the opening set, Molloy jumped out to a quick lead with a 7-1 run and never looked back, en route to a 25-14 victory. Nicalek had a pair of kills in the spurt, while sophomore setter Jennifer Koelbel set it off with an ace.

The second set was close from the start as neither squad led by more than two points. Leading 9-8, Post went on an 8-2 run to grab hold of a 17-10 advantage – its largest of the contest.  The Lions answered back with a 7-0 run to deadlock the set at 17. After a see-saw battle unfolded, the maroon and white eventually led 24-22 after a kill by Nicalek.

Molloy, however, couldn't convert the lead into a set win as a kill from junior middle hitter Elizabeth Knight and an error by Molloy's Stefani Koelbel placed the set in a stalemate again. Post then capitalized in extras and won the second set, 29-27.

In the third set with a 20-17 advantage, the Lions picked up a pair of key points to go ahead by five, which put the set away for good. Nicalek slammed down a kill in the turning point. Molloy went on to win the fourth set with ease.

Head Coach Kevin Quiambao and the Lions wrap up their three-match homestand tonight when they square off with former East Coast Conference nemesis Concordia College. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
